Presets

A countdown timer that does not need an app

Set a duration, press start, and the page counts down and rings. The remaining time appears in the browser tab title, so you can leave it running behind whatever you are actually doing.

Use the alarm clock instead when you need a specific clock time rather than a duration — “ring at 6:30” is an alarm, “ring in twelve minutes” is a timer. For sleep specifically, the nap timer explains which durations leave you clear-headed and which leave you worse than before you lay down.

Common questions

Does the timer keep running in a background tab?

Yes. It calculates from a fixed end timestamp rather than counting frames, so it stays accurate even when the browser throttles background tabs. The alarm fires at the right moment when the tab is restored or still open.

What is the 25 minute preset for?

That is a Pomodoro work interval — 25 minutes of focus followed by a short break. It is the most-used timer length after the round numbers, which is why it has its own button.

Can I use it as a kitchen timer?

It works for cooking, but be realistic: if you leave the kitchen and your laptop sleeps, the timer stops. For anything that can burn, use a device that stays awake.
